Fire Extinguisher - Recharge or Recycle ?

I see Lidl are selling 6KG powder fire extinguishers tomorrow for €28.
Seems like a wise purchase.

But I have an old one (unused) but it is now beyond its 'valid to' date.
What can I do with it ?
Would Fire Stations take them for training etc? Or is it just a case of dumping it at the local cecycling centre ?
