Hi folks, have applied to Fingal. Was told it's first come first served. Seems like this business is a black art, everyone gives different info and even the councils give conflicting info when you call them!! Anyone have any idea when they expect that Fingal will start offering places.....that is if I'm eligible in the first place!

I have been on the Fingal list for 6 months now. I still have no idea how they work their "list", so your guess is as good as mine!

Hi mlouisa, that's cool! Congrats! Mind me asking what the development you were offered is? Was it in Ongar? Don't tell me if it's private!

I applied in OCt 06, just been offered a property

Congrats

Were u on the local list? I have been approved since 31st August, but have heard nothing from them since, I'd imagine thats because I dont live in Fingal, so didnt make it to the local lists.

Fingal offer places as they come up so, provided you're not too far down the list you should get a call within a couple of months of approval. Sometimes they write out to everyone on the list and you call to make an appointment. Depending on how many people are interested, you may or may not actually get to view the property.

I'd be giving them a buzz JohnJay. If MLouisa, who is approved 2 months after you, is buying now, that's very strange. Also, you should have at least received letters about viewing places - August is 7 months ago and properties have come up between then and now - and not only for those on local lists! They get TONS of queries, so make sure they understand that you are not just on asking for an update, tell them you know people that went on the list in or around the same time and that they have heard from them and have at least had the opportunity to view!!

Good luck!

I emailed them about a month ago. I got a "Dont call us, we'll call you" reply! I might nab some poor unsuspecting TD, who will knock on my door over the next few weeks, to find out whats going on.

As I said in my last post, if you are on a local list you will get called quicker - I'd imagine thats why people who have been approved after me have got places.

I'm not in any major panic anyway - the longer I wait, the bigger a deposit I will have together.

i am on the local list for lusk as i am from the village. got offered in the village

I'd ring and explain the situation! There could be some glitch whereby your name hasn't been included in some spreadsheet or other (you know how these things go :) ) and you could be waiting and waiting and get nothing! You could miss out on a really good offer!

I wouldn't rely on a TD who will promise you the earth at this time of year and may not deliver. As I said above, if they realise you arent just badgering them for an update and that you are genuinely concerned, they may check it out for you...

Of course it may just be that you are too far down the list now (I cant imagine that much came up pre / post Christmas) but I would want to be sure that everything is in order. I wouldnt lose hope if it is a case that they havent reached you yet, theres tons of money going into it this year ;)

to be honest, I dont think I have reached the top of the list yet - I havent heard of anybody who was approved after me and who is not on the local list, and has been offered a place yet.

The whole thing is not very transparent though, it leaves you wondering if something dodgy is going on in the background!

Mmmm...when I was reading around about stuff, I could see posts by people (not only on this site) who were saying "I'm 173rd on the list" etc and I wondered who they had to hold to ransom to get that kind of information!

I think because of the volume of calls they get (I heard somewhere else that there's about 500 on the list) they have taken the line "Dont call us, we'll call you" which is frustrating but understandable.

If you haven't heard of anyone not on a local list getting an offer after you, then it's best to sit tight - waiting is hard though, but as you say, a good opportunity to keep saving!!! And just think, every estate that comes up that you aren't called for knocks a load of people off the top of the list and you will get closer to your turn ;)

Hi guys, just wondering has anyone else had this experience... some months i put away more then the 650, my car ins came up for renewal and i dippied into my saving acc only taking out SURPLUS money, not touching the 650's i've put in. I rang fingal to check if this was ok and some seriously rude person told me that she didnt know if it would affect my application!!!

Anyone any info on this??

Thankfully, I've not had any reason to touch my stash, but I cant see it being a problem if its surplus cash.....

cleo13- this happened to me also, I saved that bit extra (over the 650 required amount) but had to withdraw some for car insurance. They did query me as to why I had withdrawn the money and I explained and submitted a receipt for the car insurance. They were fine and quite understanding about this.
