I am considering buying a widescreen monitor that displays 1440 * 900. How do I find out if my pc can display this? Is it dependant on the onboard graphics card?
Cheers

Without being an absolute expert on this, I would say yes, it is.

You can find out what modes your card supports by:

- open Control Panel - Display (or right-click on the Windows Desktop)
- choose Advanced
- choose the Adaptor tab
- choose "List All Modes"

This works on my Dell laptop running Windows XP. The options may be slightly moved around on another laptop.

If you're buying it to display your TV on it make sure there's a built in tuner.

You don't need a tuner if you feed the output of, say, a VCR or a PC TV tuner card into it.

Cheers guys. I don't intend on watching TV on it - just dvds at the mo. MonsieurBond, I'll check that tonight on my pc. I may need a new graphics card anyway as the one I have is a little jumpy when viewing dvds.
