Am having a problem obtaining records of Social Welfare payments made while working in the Civil Service a long time ago.

There's no problem getting records of PRSI paid later while in private employment. I have those.

Social Welfare refferred me to the Dept. in which I worked. Dept. have written to me to say they have no records. What next?????????

Any suggestions would be welcome

If you joined the civil service pre-1996, you will not have paid Class A PRSI and so the lack of records of SW payments may simply because civil servants in that era did not make payments and were not entitled to contributory SW entitlements.

Don't think so....civil servants would have paid "stamps" at reduced rate from at least 1974 (I think that was the year it became compulsory) onwards so there should be a record of them in SW under an old insurance number if it was pre-1979.
 
Thanks guys for your suggestions but I think I have exhausted all those routes even the Ombudsman. The problem is I'm looking for Pre-1974 records.
However the pensions offices are making the Assumption that PRSI was paid though they (or anybody else) have no records. This has the affect of reducing State Pension

Just thought there must be some one else in a similar situation
 
Did you contribute to the pension scheme and if so did you get a refund when you left - this might be a way of verifying your service.
 
Hi Beautfan. Yes, marriage gratuity was paid and I have all the details of that.

Got all personal details from them including every time (just a few) I was late for work, every sickie etc. but still no records of PRSI.

They just told me they have none but are still reducing pension on the grounds that they were paid, which incidently I do not believe.
 
Were you an unestablished civil servant? A small number of grades of unestablished civil servants did pay full PRSI pre-'96 and so would be liable for a reduction in their SW contributory pension due to this status - civil servants paying class A get their pensions reduced by SW rate pension. Is the problem that your total pension is being reduced because the assumption is that you were an unestablished civil servant rather than an established civil servant?

Yes did pay some stamps, but not towards pension.
 
If you got a refund of your pension contributions in the manner of a gratutity it seems correct to me that they reduce your SW rate of pay.
 
or maybe the longer prsi span is dragging the average down ie more stamps at modified rate reduceds the average of full/modified?
 
Yes beautfan the gratuity received was from Superanuation (the equivalent of Company pension in the private sector) and is a totally seperate matter from State (Old Age) Contributory Pension.

Cuchulainn you are partly correct in what you say about the longer PRSI span but to calculate pension you need to start from the date on which the first PRSI payment was made. As PRSI for women did not come into being for women till after 1974 and the pension office is basing pension on PRSI paid long before that, hence the longer span and the reduction in pension.

However as I have already said no PRSI was paid

I'd love to hear from in a similar position
