Hi all,

I fell for the sales pitch to go "view" a timeshare for the perks of a free show and gambling vouchers. It was stupid of me to buy on the spot but they were good sales people and I fell for it.

Now looking back I dont want to pay the rest owing as I fell I wont benefit from the timeshare going away on the weeks I have.

Also I know now that I was ripped of with the value of the weeks property and I know they charge alot for maintance and commission for selling the timeshare
have anybody any opinions on this?

It is an American Timeshare, what are the consequences of me not paying the monthly repayments on the timeshare.

Could I possibly be prosecuted here in Ireland??

Re: TimesShares

There is a 7 day cooling off period on most of those contracts..
Was it a Marriot Vacation Club?

Re: TimesShares

Im well past the 7 days cooling off period,

No it wasnt the Marriott, this one is in Las Vegas.
I emailed them in Jan and they said no problem they would close my account, I though nothing of it until the mortgage company took money out of my account at the end of Feb, so ive been email them since.

I dont intend to pay anymore money to them but I was wondering how it would affect me here, could they come after me here looking for the payments?

Re: TimesShares

I bought a Marriott vacation club package in vegas last year. I know with that I signed in about 30 places. I got my solicitor to look at it first & it seems the Marriot fairly well cover everything in their contracts. You really need to take a look at what you signed.

Colm,

your options are fairly limited in reality. It doesn't make joyous reading but if you follow [broken link removed] it will give you some idea of the options available to you.

When they start discussing options for your share such as 'giving to charity' you know you're in trouble (even more so when they claim not to be able to find a charity in Europe that will accept one).

I would agree with this in most cases. That is why I asked originally if this was a Marriot package. These are the only ones I would do business like this with. Because of their size you have a lot more options.

Re: TimesShares

Yes the option of selling on does seem very limited,

I think im just going to walk away from my timeshare, I paid the deposit but having time to take a long hard long at it, it is not for me in the long run.
I dont intend to live in the states to get a mortgage and I dont think the company in the states can come looking for the money to Ireland

Re: TimesShares

The mortgage company is The Berkley Group and the timeshare company is El Dorado Resorts. I bought into the Grandview in Las Vegas

Re: TimesShares

Not trying to pimp anything & I have no vested interest here. But if you are interested in this take a look at Marriot Vacation Club.

Re: TimesShares

Not really. You choose from any Marriot Hotel ( or affialite) in the world.
I am happy with it so far
