Fax Machine and Cordless Phone

Hi, my boyfriend has a fax in his hall which he uses as his main phone. When it rings, and he picks up the other phone which is in the bedroom, the fax machine comes on. Therefore the upstairs phone can only be used for outgoing calls.

Is there any way of preventing this and is it possible to put a cordless phone beside the fax machine so we don't have to use the fax as our main handset?

did the fax come with a splitter connection, looks like a tiny box with 2 slots and a little lead out of it

you can connect the fax and the cordless phone to this and the wire end goes into the wall

should sort out your problem
