i want a fast growing conifer to create privacy boundary. I saw one in Tesco, about 2 feet tall. How long would it take to reach high enough to cut off next door. I am open to any other suggestions re rapid privacy creation, hedges etc.

Thanks

Do not, for the love of God put a conifer in your garden.
It will be a huge problem (literally ) in a few years. Your neighbours won't thank you either if it affects their light. Try something kinder like a flowering shrub. A lot of nice flowering evergreen shrubs will reach a suitable height in a few years, and they are easily trimmed everyear. Escallonia is a nice, pink-flowering one, or Philadelhus (Mock orange), or Choisya (Aztec pearl, white flowers in Spring) These will thrive in most conditions, sun or light shade, and you will still be friends with your neighbours in a few years!

I want it for privacy and it won't block light
