Farm tranfer

My boyfriend mother has died 3 weeks ago. He is to inherit the farm but his brother is in charge of the will so i dont know when it will be read. Nobody else is interested in the farm. He is wondering how to sort out the tranfer of the farm with the department of agriculture. Do they need to know within a time frame.

Ask your boyfriend to contact your Regional Veterinary Office and they will initiate the necessary changes.

Very sorry for your loss. There is a specific unit within the Department of Agriculture which assists where a farm owner has passed away. Details of the Inheritance Enquiry Unit are available here

They will assist in notifying all the various sections of the Department, including the DVO (District Veterinary Office), the Basic Payment Section (dealing with entitlements) and also sections dealing with any other farm schemes your boyfriends mother may have been participating in.
You should also inform the family solicitor and an agricultural adviser may also be needed at some point before next years Basic Payment deadline to deal with the transfer of the entitlements to the successors
