Family Printer

Anyone recommend a good reliable printer (A4) for family use. Bear in mind the cost of replacing Ink cartridges. School projects/thesis are the main items printed - generally will not be used to print photographs. Don't want a scanner or fax combined.

For what it's worth Canon printer consumables (ink cartridges) tended (at least up to recently) to be cheaper than for other printers. If you would be doing a lot of printing then at some stage a laser printer might work out better value in the long term. But it might be hard to justify one for sporadic home use. One good tip with inkjet printers is to set the drivers to draft mode except for final versions of docs that need to be better quality. I never use anything other than draft even for final versions. Saves on ink.

The DELL site has a laser 1100 at around 130euro delivered, which looks like good value.

Thanks runner, but have you priced the ink? We have a small Dell printer and one of the reasons for getting a new one is the price of replacing ink.

Clubman - that's good advice - never thought of that, thanks.

Try the Epson Stylus C64 - we have no problems with ours. A fairly basic printer but does the houshold Ok.
