I am involved in a separation situation, and unfortunately things are not going v well at the moment. It looks like mediation will not happen, and judicial separation proceedings will be launched by my wife. I was just wondering if someone could clarify a point for me. If judicial proceedings are launched, can the parties solicitors still negotiate directly with each other in advance of the court case, or do any negotiations have to go through barristers once a court case is launched?

The solicitors can always talk - but an awful lot depends on the two parties.

There is generally a reason why one party launches proceedings rather than go the mediation or settlement route. It could be a lack of understanding about the process, or a deep distrust of the other, or a determination not to be sidetracked etc.,etc.

It also depends on how complex the case is.
