Family Health Insurance Renewal

Hi All,

Health Insurance is up for renewal on Feb 1 of this year. Family of 4 (34,32,2 and 10 months).

Currently Adults on Flex 500 Explore and children on Essential Health 300. Price per annum = €933.74 per adult. Child 1 = €256.33 Child 2 Free.

Looking for potential alternative Plans of similar (for better benefits) or cheaper price. Some additional factors

• Cover for Tralee and Cork Private Hospitals is NB.
• Comfortable with a high excess
• Ideally would like the option of a private room.
• All in good health
• GP cover not important.
• Dental cover may be useful in time for one adult

There is no plan that covers a private room in a private hospital, which is cheaper than Flex 500 Explore.
The nearest plan is Laya Control 600 Connect @ price 955pa. Details as follows;
1. Laya Control 600 Connect; price 955pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered) + 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private excess
600 per admission. Day case excess 175 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital. Limited day to day cover on this plan.

The following plans include private room cover and good day to day benefits, including dental.
2. Laya Control 600 Total @ price 1004pa.

The following plans are cheaper in price, but they don't cover a private room in a private hospital. They are both with VHI healthcare.

5. VHI One Plan 500; @ price 756pa; all public and private hospitals covered, private excess capped at 500 x 2 max per year for all admissions.
Day case excess 150 per procedure. Limited day to day cover.

Child Options
Laya Essential Health 300 @ price 256 for all children, is best value with Laya.
However, at least 1 adult must be insured with Laya on any plan in order to insure the children.
Children cannot be insured on their own with Laya, one adult must also be insured.

VHI child option;
VHI One Plan 150; price 197pa; all public and private hospitals covered, private excess 150 per admission and per day case procedure.
If both adults choose a VHI plan well then the children must also choose VHI, unless one adult chooses Laya, then the children can avail of
the child special offer.
