Personally I wouldn't stay around Gare du Nord, I wouldn't stay near a train station in any city - it would be like getting a hotel around Connolly Station. You'd be better off staying in St Michel or somewhere, there are small cheap quaint hotels in Paris but you'd want to book now assuming you're going in summer. You pay per room, expect about 90 per room. As for driving...well my hubbie is from Paris and I cringe every time we go there. He has the patience of a saint, he could drive around for a good 20 minutes just waiting to park and then squeeeeeze into the tiniest weeniest little place - cos that's all you're going to get! If you really want to keep the car, then you'll probably end up parking it and leaving it for the duration of your stay and use the Metro. Weigh up the cost of the price of the Ryanair bus to Beauvais for the lot of you and the cost of keeping the car for the few days (or is it the same price anyway?). I wouldn't drive in gay Paris anyway...I was looking around the Gare Du Norde.
Anyone stayed around this area?
Should I choose another area?
Or am I mad to bring the car into Paris.
I’ve never stayed in the areas in your post, but I do know the area to the south, which is rather like Ballymun except all the women wear chadors, if you get my drift. I think you are crazy to drive in Paris, but if you want to, you could try the Ibis hotel in Bercy http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/1743/fiche_hotel.shtml. It should be easy to navigate to. The area’s cool, really nice. The hotel says there’s paid parking nearby, but I suggest you check the prices before you book.T Don't know what the area is like though.
