My father willed me his house that he shared with my mam but giving her right of residence after his passing. He died recently & My mam now needs to avail of the fair deal scheme for a nursing home. Will the house be factored into the FD scheme as an assett of hers? it was in his sole name & willed to me after his passing but not transferred yet. Also what happens if my mam has a few thousand over the €36k saving threshold?

As a couple, any asset regardless of whose name it is in is considered jointly owned for Fair Deal purposes.

I think so, the house is considered jointly owned and the 5 year rule will kick in here. It says any asset disposed of in the previous 5 years will be counted in the financial assessment.

Only the few thousand over the savings threshold will be assessed.
