We registered for Fair Deal a few years ago with the understanding that as I lived in the family home all my life I would qualify as a connected person as the requirements were to have been living in they house for at least 3 years (my case 50 years plus) & no other property interest which I don’t have. I remained at home as there were two elderly adults in the home. It damaged my career as a result as I could not travel as expected with work and I missed out on job progression & salary increases but I felt I had no choice as there is very little support for working carers. Now my last parent has died & HSE are now refusing to honour the Connected Persons.
Has anyone else had issues in relation to this? This is putting a huge stress & strain on me & I feel like they are changing the rules as they go along.
