Extra Work done on the house

I have bought a house that won't be ready until March 2006 and wanted extra electrical work done and the builder gave me the electrican's number & email address. He gave me a quote which I am happy with and he said to issue him with a cheque and gave me his address.

My question is do I issue the cheque now or should I wait till the work is completed? I am not sure if they have started working on the house yet as it is part of a development.

Thanks

Thanks for this but how do I know that the work will be done - should I speak to him and clarify?

Tell him to notify you when it's done and then inspect the job - assuming you can gain access since I think that site access is a lot more strictly controlled than in years gone by. If you can't get in to see the job tell him you'll pay up once the job has been inspected and OK'd by you.

Also don't pay unless you have a binding contract to purchase in place...( you can never assume anything!)
