Hi,

I have heard many people talking about how an employee enjoys more protection after remaining in a job for a year, and therefore becoming a permanant employee.

Is this the case, and how would it affect in relation to redundancy?

Sorry don't understand your question. You have to be employed for 24 months before you are entitled to redundancy.

There are two separate issues here.

After 12 months, the Unfair Dismissals Act applies to employees. The main point here is that the employer must now justify the dismissal of the employee. In the first year, they don't have to justify the dismissal.

After 24 months, the employee qualifies for statutory redundancy.
