Extra charge for using credit card

Hi,
This has probably been asked before as I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with this one.

Is it legal for companies in Ireland to add on an additional charge for using your credit card but not for using laser or paying in cash?

My understanding is that they cannot charge more, according to Visa International rules but I could be wrong.

Also, if it is illegal, what can I do to report these companies?

I have reported this situation to both the credit card company and the financial regulator and neither appeared willing or able to do anything - I got the "thats between you and the vendor" line.

IME, the most infamous ones were the ticket booking outfits, who used to charge a "booking fee" + ticket cost + 2% for using a credit card.
