External Window Shutters.

I am thinking of putting some of these on my house. Anybody got any info on them. Our bungalow is very long as we added an extension years back. At the moment we have lots of ivy on it but we are going to take it all down. Now I think it will look very bare and am trying to come up with some idea and think the shutters would look well. I have'nt yet found any pictures of bungalows with them to see how they look. Anybody any ideas.
 
If the shutters are intended purely for decoration and have no actual function, my personal opinion is that they will just look silly; never mind upkeep and the hassle when you want to paint the house.
 
Thanks Thirsty, yes you're right about when it comes to painting time, probably more hassle than anything.

damn right, strongly agree, they are retarded looking things on a bungalow!

have you considered an external material change for portions of the elevation? plaster bands, brick, timber anything but fake shutters.
 
No, this is a pretty sudden decision as we have new fascia etc just put up and dont want the ivy ruining it. Ivy is also rising our tarmac in places so much as I love its appearance it has to go. Its been there for years so it will look really bare without it. It is a plain long straight, now 5 bed bungalow.
 
I think shutters on some buildings can look very well and act as insulation on very exposed areas.

My daughter has a very large window 24' high and 18' w. facing the westerly winds. she is hoping to get some type of shutter to provide protection from winter winds.

Could anybody help with a source to get these. Browtal
