Hi,

I am looking to password protect some folders & files on my External Hard drive , I use it for work and some of the info is sensitive (nothing major but still) and if I ever lost it would worry .

Is there any software (freeware) available that I could simply password protect a folder or file on an External USB Hard drive ?

One way is if it's NTFS you should be able to enable EFS (encrypted file system) on a folder.
 
There's a few of them on the end of .

If you've got Vista Home you might not be able to enable it unfortunately. Don't you love Vista?
 
Use true crypt. does what you want. and free. google for linky.
