Hi

A quick question on exterior walls:

Is the normal method: solid blocks on their flat and then an inner wall to create a cavity of blocks on their side?

Could anyone advise on which sized block to use

So essence to build a house the outer wall is a combination of two walls?

thanks

If you have to ask this question, then you really shouldn't be self building a house.

I'm only pricing up materials, and was wondering if the norm is the outer leaf of wall is usually put down on the flat and the inner on its side. To work out quantity of blocks required.

Gotta start learning somewhere! I will not be laying the blocks.

I think it's pretty typical for both layers to be laid on their side.

Eoin,
Blocks on side as shown. Pumped in oil bead in between blocks rather than sheeted insulation is advisable. A lot of self builds who are building for themselves will also put an insulated slab inside on all outer walls to really keep in the heat. Good luck.
