Expired Vouchers what rights do i have.

I wont name the company here Ill just call them a travel shop.
I won 2000 Euro worth of Vouchers in travel shop i got them in January 2003. Due to work commitments I couldn’t use the vouchers at the time. On the vouchers It only states vouchers will expiry in 12 months. At the time I went into travel shop in Galway and was told the vouchers would be grand to use after the 12 months, because it didn’t have an exact date.

So I went to use these vouchers to pay for my travels to OZ. but travel shop now tell me they are not valid to use..
But what I cant understand is why not, Travel shop have received the money. Have I any rights here.

You don't have any legal right to use an expired voucher-unless you have it in writing that you could use them after the 12 month period.

i am kicking myself, it never dawned on me to get on paper. if i went to the small claims court would i have a case?

Do you know for a fact that 'Travel Shop' received money for the vouchers? Perhaps they donated them as a prize.

I doubt it, but maybe the threat of a Small Claims action might prompt some sort of favourable response.

I sympathise you - it's happened to me numerous times - very annoying. Have told people not to bother getting me vouchers in future because by the time i find them, they're always out of date.

the travel shop defo got the money cause the prize came from another business. and they have records of the vouchers being bought. not many people would buy 2000 euro worth of vouchers
