1997 Audi A4 failed NCT emissions
1st time (high idle)
CO 5.70%
lambda 0.844
HC 275 ppm
had lambda sensor replaced - not with AUDI part
2nd time (hgh idle)
CO 5.30%
lambda 0.857
HC 273 ppm
Had cat repaced - not with Audi cat
CO still high
Dagnostic carried out at Audi service centre and numerous faults erased and reset basic settings. Checked for leaks in exhaust.
CO 1.09%
lambda 0.968
HC 189 ppm
I've tried additives - no joy
What with new tyres and all this I'm down €1k
Any ideas apart from buying new car
Cheers.

Same to happened to me so I would be interested to know if anyone has any ideas.
Renault Clio haven't got the emmisions with me, but went and did the nct they were to high brought it to a garage they did a treatment on it & tested it on their machine - the emmisions went way down under the levels and on wednesday back to the nct on Saturday and they were way up again.

Sorted at last. The lambda sensor had been replaced with a dud. This masked the real problem - the Air Flow Meter. Both now replaced with genuine parts and breezed through NCT. Kevin Byrne motors Sundrive Road found the problem and fixed it. Just shows what somome who really knows cars can do.
