Is there a way of forcing Excel to open a corrupt file? Does Windows XP save previous versions of files anywhere that I could re-vert to?

PS I have used Open Office to open the corrupt file and have identified the corrupt component, but OO loses all the graph formatting, so the OO file is no good to me,
