Exam Paper Rechecks

My son was 5 points short for his first choice college place. So he viewed some of his scripts to see if he could get the five points without having to repeat. On viewing Biology script his teacher found two errors, where the question had been corrected but no points allocated. They were looking for four marks and found seven, so this paper was sent back to be rechecked. As we all heard the maths paper was very hard and when he saw that he was only two marks off the next grade he had his maths paper rechecked as well.

Well to come to the point the results came back yesterday with no change, which has knocked him for six as his teacher was sure the Biology paper would be upgraded. So to see what has happened he has to apply for the scripts to be viewed again, and to view the scripts you have to travel to Athlone which is about a four hour drive from where we live. Has anyone gone through this process? is it worth doing? because to have to repeat a full year to make up two marks is heartbreaking. Any advise would be appreciated.

I would have thought that the 4 hour drive would be worthwhile given what is at stake.

Would the teacher in question be willing to accompany your son?

That was my question, would it be worth going to Athlone or are we fighting a loosing battle. About asking his teacher to travel, it was hard enought to get them to his school, his maths teacher was unavailable to view script. But I will ask.

Yes do it - you can only stay the same or gain from it.

BTW you have missed the first few weeks of college, unless you have expected to get in and snuk in to lectures already (yes iv done it). This makes it quite difficult missing any time especially the first few weeks where introductions to all cources, choices, rescources and people are missed out on. If you already have one or more friends in there you should be ok. otherwise start goining in tomorrow to lectures. you wont be noticed anyway.

On the other hand if your trip to athlone is unsuccessful
Repeating is not the end of the world. You will be more mature, more educated, and more able for the course next year!

If you like to gamble (which i do!) Take the year off- try to get a job in the field you want to work in - check it out for a while. if all goes your way then the points will come down by 5 on hey you are in otherwise
you are up that chocolate creek without a popsicle stick!

Just to clarify, this is the case for the OP (given that they were only a handful of marks away from the higher grade) but if someone was only a few marks away from a lower grade it is also possible to go down a grade!
