I'm flying this weekend and need to bring a suit with me. Outward with Ryanair and back with Aer Lingus. I have a suit that will be in a suit holder.

Is this counted as hand luggage...?

And will a coat hanger be taken off at security...?

If your suit carrier is the only piece of hand luggage that you'll have with you then you should be okay ... I think a coat hanger is considered much less dangerous than 105ml tubes of toothpaste ... but maybe take a plastic hangar just in case.

If you want to bring a suit carrier in addition to another item of hand luggage you will most likely be fine departing ireland, but if you are returning from the UK you are still only allowed 1 item through security (you might get away with it but the security staff are really strict so it's unlikely)

Traveled to Madrid recently with a suit carrier and a small rucksack as carry on. Out with Iberia and back with Ryanair. Didn't have any problems in Dublin or Madrid. If you're going through the UK it could be stricter.
