Eurosong

Sadly it has all gone pear shaped since then... perhaps Dustin should make a comeback

I never understand why they do not insist on all entries to have a traditional Irish music element.

This is what tens of thousands of Europeans come here for every year - but we then send some middle of the road pop song to represent a country deeply mired in beautiful traditional music.

Forget about winning - use it as a marketing opportunity for Irish music

They might as well use it for marketing purposes because winning isn't easy any more.......it seems.

Even for marketing purposes, you would really need to be qualifying for the final.
The audience for the semis is a fraction of that of the final I imagine.

The few more Irish sounding acts that have been sent in the 'modern' version (ie with public voting) of EV didn't do much.

Dervish 2007 got to final. With a better singer they may have done better. Often think Aoife Scott would have done well with All along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Perhaps if Dustin has been a better singer he or she or it might have done better too.
On a more serious note while the song representing Ireland this year is a pretty good song the best we can hope for is a place in the final.
Just imagine at one stage we were hoping to win....again but now we are hoping to get to a final.. How times have changed.

definitely not, nobody watches eurovision for national folk music, yes tourists come here for that in pubs but thats part of a trip to ireland, same as if they were in northern spain they would go and see traditional spanish music.
The eurovision is a young pop music extravaganza its not supposed to appeal to old fogies like us
