Euro - Dollar exchange rates

I called a few banks this morning about getting 600 euro worth of dollars

AIB - 892.26 dollars (6 euro commission)
BOI - 878 dollars
PTSB - 891.24 dollars

Using XE Currency converter I get 600.00 EUR = 914.975 USD. Anyone know where to get the best euro dollar exchange rate

XE may be using some non retail rate that you will never get near as a small customer. If you browse around their site you may find more info on the various rates that they quote. Or have a look at www.oanda.com .

Thanks for that Clubman. Do people generally find that AIB, BOI etc are usually pretty much the same for customers buying a small amounts of dollars.

Not sure but you would probably need to shop around even more widely than three banks. If they are charging a transaction fee in addition to the forex margin and you don't qualify to have this waived then haggle or get somebody who does qualify to have this charge waived to convert the money for you (e.g. some or all OAPs used to get this perk - not sure what the story is these days).

Alternatively if you have a credit card you will probably get a better deal by sticking the money on the card and then withdrawing it abroad.
