ESB Wiring check and certificate - cost

WE are in process of buying a house, it has been vacant some time, the various costs are starting to mount - we're very much on the buyer beware route. The Electric was cut off over a year ago - less than two. WE are obliged to have a full wiring check and get the electrician to submit a certificate of completion. Any idea of costs for this, ballpark figure.
 
I've heard of one job where a cert of compliance was required for a reconnection, there were other electrical jobs included and the total cost was ~€500, so that might give you some indication.

Best to ring around a few recommended registered electricians in your area to get a few quotes to be sure though. It's unlikely any would give you much indication over the phone as there are so many variables, particularly in older properties.
 
I had to have this done earlier this year; it was difficult enough to find an electrician who would even look at it.

In the end I think the certificate itself cost €550 but there were various other things that needed to be done to bring the electrics up to standard, in all the total cost was close to €1,200. We managed to get the seller to cover half the bill.

The house was built in 1980 but previous owners had made some changes (added plug sockets etc) that turned out to be unsafe and had to be shut off.
 
Thanks all. Modern house, no changes made, original wiring and house built in 2008. It's mostly procedure as the house was rented and the tenants eventually left - electricity was cut off after house was left idle we think. Nothing has been tampered with - but the two main ESB cables were cut - I assume by the ESB.
 
Anything from €100 to €250 i'd imagine. However, if you're in Dublin?????????????????????
