Hi All,

I'm looking for some general info on ESB and overhead wires.

We're building a new house onto the end of a terrace (garden plot).
Currently the ESB wires run from a pole on the street, overhead to the edge of the roof and supply the terrace.
I've just been informed by our builder that he need to talk to the ESB about this as they cannot work with overhead lines and need to move the supply etc.

Questions:
Is this a big issue?
How long will it take for the ESB to complete this activity normally?
Do we incur a fee or is it their responsibility?
Do we have any responsibility to the rest of the terrace when the ESB are working or is it ESB responsibility?
Any other pertinant info?

Many Thanks in advance (I've started fretting already  )
Micheller.

I dont know how to link a post but you will find a topic on the list below within that there is a good link should tell you all you need to know. the thread is calledd ESB post on site!

Thanks guys I rang the ESB (Networks division) and logged the matter with them. They say they'll contact me within 3 working days to discuss further.

Some more queries, if anyone can help :)
- I'm not sure but there may be another overhead cable from eircom- would
this also be an issue for the builders and need to be moved? Or is it just
because there are electrical cables that there is an issue? So could a phone
cable stay and do I not have to worry about it :)
- Would it be possible that Eircom cables could be on the same pole as ESB?
And if so, and if the ESB is relocating the pole and eircom won't be able to
use it anymore, would it be at their costs since there is no pole on our land?

Any advice welcome :)
Thanks in advance again, Micheller.

if cables are directly in the way of build they will have to bemoved. I ahd same problem with ESB poles/wire and ESB are moving free of charge. It also depend what volatge the cables are mine were three line 10kva cables. Best of luck

Thanks :)
I rang again today, so waiting for a callback from the area engineer.
I really hope it isn't a major time roadblock!

Michelle.
