Hi hope this is the proper area,i was in a rented house for 7 years, when I moved in I payed ESB 300 euro deposit..anyhow last year I lost my job,i was left with a huge credit union bill, and a huge bank loan..lucky enough a good mate has took me and my in to her house to live, that has allowed me to arrange to pay an amount the banc and credit union until I find a job,but to say every cent is taken a week would be an understatement,i don't mind as the bills are been payed, but heres my issue, when I left the rented house the landlord let me off with the last mths rent,he knew I was broke, but I had and esb bill for 302 euro..i phoned the esb and told them look keep my deposit off the bill as I had not got the 300,i never owed them a cent in the 7 years I was there, they told me they gave me back my 300 euro 4 years ago,it came off 3 bills??can this be done??is this the norm,i didn't notice it off them bills, now I have the IRISH DEBT BUREAU wanting a breakdown off all me incoming and out goings, and there going to take legal action,oh they will get it for sure, and ill pay them the amount im left with each week, which is 5 euro, seems like there throwing serious hassle my way for the money, should I send them the breakdown, and were the esb right to pay my deposit of 2 bills, when I never owed them anything, and never ever did owe,i always payed on time..im a bit lost on this..cheers

1. Yes the ESB can use the deposit to pay off any due bills.
2. The Irish Debt Bureau sounds like just a debt collection company.ie they are not anything official ,I would not send them any breakdown of your income. It is highly unlikely that for what seems from your post to be small enough debt that they will go legal, so do not panic.!
3. Write (do not phone) ESB explain where the error occurred and offer the 5 euro per week.
I would be very surprised if they do not accept your repayment.

I know it is easy me saying it , but do not be bullied/bounced into sending off personal details.
@ the fiver a week you will be grand.

Gerry thanks a million for reply, its of great help, like when I payed the 300 deposit it was to be payed back to me after I moved,or so I presumed, now o owed them 300,in my head they had 300 belong to me,so fair is fair they take that of the bill that's owed...but when I suggested this they said "now we paid you back the 300 euro 4 years ago"..i said no I never got it"..they said "yes it was taking of a bill on a certain mth 4 years ago"...lol..maybe it was,i didn't notice a realy low bill, but I thought a deposit was there to be returned, anyway ill do as you say re this credit company.thet BCW based in blanchardstown..Gerry thanks again.
