Hi,

I have water issues with all the plumbed items upstairs in my duplex apartment. I have no problems with anything downstairs. It has been going on for a good while, I just havn't been able to look at the problem until now.

I have a water pump downstairs beside the copper hot water cylinder in the hot press. This automatically should activate when any tap is turned on. The kitchen cold mains is not associated with this pump.

Downstairs, when I turn on the cold or hot tap in the toilet, the pump in the hot press activates instantly and water comes out of the taps. Likewise with the kitchen hot tap.

Upstairs however its hit and miss. 7/10 no water flows from any tap or the shower upstairs. There might be a 3 minute or longer delay and then the pump downstairs kicks in and water gushes forth.

Is this likely to be a pump problem or airlock issue?

I managed to solve this. A pump technician advised me over the phone to attach a bicycle pump to the expansion vessel on the pump and give it a few blasts, taking care to isolate the pump first from the electrical power supply. This did the trick and just cost me €4 for a pump in Argos and no plumber needed.

You deserve a pat on the back then, its a great feeling when you solve a problem and it doesnt cost you a fortune.

Well done.
