Entitlements when having an operation

Hi,

My partner is thinking of going into surgery on his bowel, he has unlcer Active Colitis and his doctor wants him to go in under the knife so to spk.

He is in full time employment for the last 9 years or so, and would be the main breadwinner in our house.
I'm also a stay at home mum as it not viable for me to go to work and put Child into creche etc

What would his entitlements be?
Would i get careers allowance? as he would be out of work for about 6 months as its a big operation?

He should qualify for illness benefit from social welfare, assuming he has enough prsi paid at the right class.

Nope his employer dont pay sick leave or anything like that, he'll be out of work for about 6months cause of operation

Unfortunately, Carer's Allowance would not be an option as a person must be so incapacitated as to require full-time care for a minimum of twelve months.
