Hi All, First post so be gentle with me if I ask dumb questions!
I have a smell coming from my en suite shower. Having looked around on the forums here I think I can definately say it is NOT coming from the drains. It appears to be the actual water that is held in the trap and not anything coming back up from the drains. The wife has taken to pouring bleach down the trap at every opportunity but I'm not sure that's the best route to go. I'd rather eradicate the source.
I've read on another post that a certain bacteria can grow at 25°C and I was wondering if this could be the problem? Can't think of anything else. We have a Mira digital shower that mixes the hot and cold and controls the temperature then delivers it to the shower head via a single pipe. Don't know if that's a factor. Also we have a water softener for the whole house, again don't know if that's a factor.
Can you open the trap? In our ensuite, any rotting hair in the trap causes a bad pong, it is easy to empty out every few months, or use a hair trap over the drain hole.
You could also have a little leak under the trap, every time a shower is taken, some seepage occurs under the shower tray, creating a smell. I had a similar problem with the bath outlet trap which the plumber tightened crookedly, created a leak and a smell.
Hi
I had a problem with a smell in a shower ensuite in a rental property. I spent a lot of money in trying to investigate the source. It is a chemical smell and I now believe it to be the caulk/glue that was used to fit the shower enclosure as when hot water is applied to it, it gives off a smell.
If its not the shower you might check out the light fittings in the ensuite. Sometimes the heat of a light on its covering can give off a bad smell that's difficult to pinpoint
