At the moment the Japanese Film Festival is on in Dublin and Cork. It's a chance to visit Japanese ideas, language, scenery etc without the hassle of overseas flights.
The films cover a wide range of subjects, it's not all anime and samurai fights. And yes, they are all subtitled to ensure we don't get lost.
So far I've enjoyed a comedy and a very thought-provoking film about disappearing traditions versus the constant values of friendship and loyalty.
I'm puzzled as to why the festival is not better attended. Is it lack of publicity, lack of interest?
The films are bringing me so much pleasure I'd love other people to experience this too. I am not involved in any way with the festival, I just think this is a wonderful opportunity to "travel" at a bargain price, and still get into work next morning.
