English Driving Licence

While working in England i got a full UK driving licence. I have now returned to Ireland and i have been told there is no need to apply for an Irish licence. It is also suggested that penalty points cannot be applied to a UK licence. Is this correct?

Its likely to raise your insurance, I did a quick experiement on AA insurance when looking for a quote myself today and using a UK licence raised the premium by around 10%
