Engine running on with ignition off

Just noticed this yesterday with my 2000 1.9Tdi 116bhp Golf IV.

On turning off the ignition the engine runs on for a second. Previously it stopped dead.

I filled it yesterday with winter diesel (necessary for the low winter temperatures here in Romania) and I'm wondering if this is the reason. As far as I know winter diesel has the same octane rating as normal diesel so is this an ignition fault?

The car had a major service one month ago at 190,000km.

Any ideas anyone?

your car has an air shut off valve built in to the inlet manilfold to prevent the engine run on, you are talking about you can see its the first diaghram flap you see as the main intercooler hose enters the inlet manifold usally the vacumn pipe comes off the side of it.

Ok, thanks. So that might be the problem? Valve sticking open momentarily? Is it a self-fix i.e. WD40 or a garage job do you think?

pre ignition, your car needs decoked simple thing to do not to costly either
