End of contract - Welfare entitlements?

In a nutshell a friend is coming to the end of his employment contract.
He lives in private rented accomodation and has never claimed any welfare payments before.

Can I ask what the standard list of benefits/entitlements etc he may be eligible for?

Unemployment assistance/benefit?
Rent support?
