Is it true that if an employer makes a contribution to your pension fund, the employee is subject to benefit in kind on that contribution.

BIK on pensions

If the pension scheme has received Revenue approval (a standard procedure) there will be no BIK

> there will be no BIK

As long as the total contribution (employer plus employee plus AVCs) does not exceed the relevant age related tax relief limit. If the employer contribution pushes the total contribution over this limit then BIK becomes an issue.

BIK

Blank - not so.

If a pension scheme is approved, then there is never BIK charged to the employee on employer contributions. The rules to which you refer are in respect of PRSAs only.
