Health Insurance Employee health insurance and maternity leave

Just wondering whether health insurance as a benefit paid for by my employer can be stopped if I were to take unpaid maternity leave?
I understood I should be treated as if I were at work but the policy states that it would be suspended during any unpaid leave time taken and resume afterwards...
