Emigration & the tax considerations

Knowing this forum isn’t a substitute for getting advised professionally, I just wanted to see anyone might have experienced the below and if they could suggest anything I might not be considering. I’ve not been able to see anything around here on returning from the Middle East & its tax implications.

The company I am in are offering various roles in their office in Bahrain. I am considering a move due to the zero tax in Bahrain. I’m trying to get my own high level understanding first of the tax before going to a practitioner with more detailed questions.

I’ve lived in Ireland for 35 years, I’d be ordinary resident & domiciled.
My income generated would be based on a Bahraini contract of employment & this would be allowed to be remitted to an Irish account avoiding tax.

Is there a minimum period that I must consider being out of the country for other than the 30 days per year? Is it possible you could terminate your contract with your employer 1 year or 2 into being away & because that income was earned on a contract and work performed in that country it would be exempt from Irish tax on re-entry & you could live happily ever after back under PAYE.

I’ve also wondered how all of those who are now returning in their late 20’s & 30’s in the likes of US / Australia after 1 or 2 years tax seems to not be a concern. That’s my loose basis of logic for the above point, which I am probably way off the mark with.

Appreciate any input from anyone who might have an experience on moving (especially if in Bahrain) or advise an experienced tax professional/practice who might deal with matters like this.

It’s not really clear from your post how much time you’d have to be in the Bahrain office if at all.

How many PRSI contributions do you have?

Assuming full time in that office / region. Possibly back in Ireland for 5-15 days a year for work, but would be under a non Irish employment contract.

PRSI contributions, I’ve been in full time employment in Ireland for the last 15 years in the legal field.
