Just got one of these promo flyers with my "Book People" order form. It is one of those rackets where you have WON A PRIZE, ring an expensive number & we will keep you on the line for 3 minutes before we give you the answer. They normally have a ringer, i.e. €200 holiday voucher, which you can use against a holiday that is overvalues to the tune of €300, but this time the ringer is more disguised. Has anyone rung the number, its €2.4/min and calls will not exceed 3min/20secs.

I suspect that some suckers (and maybe some impressionable kids) have called the number alright given the number of such scams that seem to exist.

This thing did come with a magazine that would not like to piss off it's subscribers......

Hi BlueSpud,
A lot of these "Prizes" are found in "reputable" publications, who you
would think would be careful about who they take ads from , but
seemingly not.
Carmel Foley was on the radio recently and this was a topic which she
covered, as some people are taking this as a measure of respectability.

To answer your other question, the other popular "Ringer" is a DVD, which
is worded to sound like a DVD player or recorder, but is actually a DVD.
