Eligibility for JB

I have who is expecting to be made redundant in next few weeks.

He has worked for 2 years and 3 weeks in current job so far.

In 2007 he only worked for about 14 weeks.

In 2006 he worked for 22 weeks. (in a different job)

In 2008 he worked for 52 weeks.

In 2009 he has worked 42 weeks so far.

Although he has worked for over 2 years in current job I'm unsure if he would be entitled to JB, since I believe 2007 is qualifying year for claims made in 2009. As you can see from the above he only worked 14 weeks in 2007.

Can anyone please advise?

When he wasn't working, was he signing on? If so, then he would have received a credited contribution for each week, which would increase his total.

From the first Monday in Jan, the relevant year will be 2008, so even if he fails to qualify at the end of this year, he may qualify from January next.

*If you do not have 13 paid contributions in the relevant tax year, you must have the 13 contributions paid in any of one the following years:
  • The 2 tax years before the relevant tax year
  • The last complete tax year
  • The current tax year.
The Relevant Tax Year is the second last complete tax year before the year in which your claim is made. So, for claims made in 2009, the Relevant Tax Year is 2007.

No he wasn't.

Thanks to you both, that clears things up.
