Electronic waste recycling charge question

when you go into a shop and buy a new appliance(kettle tv vcr whatever)
and are charged the recycling charge by the shop. can you bring back your old product to the shop or what way does it work ,a couple of places i bought stuff from will charge you the recycling charge but refuse to take back old appliances (confused)

Yes.

They are in breach of the regulations so. You should insist and, if necessary, just leave the stuff on their premises. See .
 
you sure you can just leave the stuff on their premises?

the oasis link contains a link to the actual regulations; section 14 (3) of which seems to suggest that distributors need not accept back old items in certain circumstances and with the agreement of the local authority.

its a bit vague though, and can only be done when it does not make things more difficult for the person returning the item, surely if you have the item with you, anything other than leaving it there in teh shop is more difficult for you?
