Hello,

I am looking at a rental house prospect and the (~800 gl) heating oil tank is placed inside a shed with a closed door, and a large electrical pump with compressor tank to pump well water is placed beside it. Is this considered a safety risk ?

Thank You.

Its against the building regulations to have an oil tank in an enclosed space. It should also be a certain distance from the house. To have an electrical pump beside a tank like that is completely insane.

You can have an oil tank within an enclosed space, however, certain criteria must be met.
It must be contained within a fireproof chamber, ventilated high & low to outside atmosphere.
It must have a fireproof self closing door, opening outwards and openable from the inside.
The tank must be bunded.
Due to increases in oil theft, it is fast becoming common practice to move oil tanks indoors, but safety generally is never considered.
