electric shower question

Hi all, i am building a granny flat. that will have its own electric fuse board. I heard that you can only have 1 electric shower per household unless you have 3 phase electrics. can i put an electric shower in the granny flat, if it has its own fuse board. There is a electric shower in the house already.

If the granny flat has its OWN SEPARATE SUPPLY as opposed to just having its own consumer board (fuse/mcb board) which I assume will be just a fused spur from your own supply, then there is no problem installing an electric shower.

Incidentally I am assuming by you saying "electric shower", you in fact mean an "Instant Shower" rather than a "Power Shower".

Now if your granny flat is wired, as I suspect it will be, ie: spured off your own C/U., then you cannot just wire two instant showers without using some sort of priority unit, such as the one I have linked to below.

So basically the answer is , YES, you can have a shower in both dwellings, but with certain limitations if it is not a separate supply.

thanks spark rite. After taking advice from my sparks and plumber. I went against the idea. they recommended only 1. But you are correct about the 2. We fitted a 6kw electric boiler instead to heat rads and hot water cylinder. A pump was fitted to the hot water cylinder to create a power shower. We did lose 1 m2 of floor space. but with some ingenious planning by the plumber. It was space that would most likely not have ever been used for any great purpose.
