electric shower not working

A colleague of mine is having problem with her electric shower the lead that you pull is not connecting, does this mean that the connection is just gone in the box on the wall, if so is this expensive to fix.

Also my mam got a new electric shower a few months ago and the electrion said that you are best to leave the connection on all the time (ie light on) as the constant pulling of lead wears it out.

Any comments welcome

Is there a light on box and is it lit up and therefore power going to it? If not it could just be a question of the trip switch kicking in and therefore just needs to be adjusted at fuse board. If there is no power going to it it sounds best to get an electrician to have a look at it.

I'm obviously not an electrician but it does sound as if he has a good point. I asked an electrician once if much power was used in leaving the switch on for our electric shower and he said it was minimal. I'm sure others here will have a different view :)

by the sounds of it the pullchord switch is gone. it can be replaced quite easy. this is a common problem with electric showers. im an electrician and i would recommend leaving the pullchord switched on, the only reason the pullchord is put onto a shower is for isolation when carrying out any maintanance so that a plumber or another electrician can easily isolate the power going to the shower

Yes I'd agree. Leave the switch cord on all the time. There are no safety implications.
