Electric Ireland account in credit, can I access the money?

I'm on an Equaliser account so a direct debit paid monthly. The thing is, my account is nearly €500 in credit, but yet the direct debit just gets taken each month. Obviously I'd rather have that money than in just sitting there with Electric Ireland. Is there any way to access it? Switch provider and get a refund?

Change the direct debit amount having spoken with EI.

Some of that credit is caused by Government credits and as such is not real money, that you paid out of your bank account.

In a similar position; agreed no further debits will be made until credit balance cleared.

The OP has paid nearly €500 more from their bank account than they needed to. Of course it's real money.

Just cancel the Equaliser option until the credit is used up

I had one of these accounts but found that I was almost always in credit no matter what time of the year it was. I cancelled and switched back to Direct Debits and managed the highs and lows myself
