I got this mail from the Eircom Net Music store about them closing down their current service to open a new one. They're asking customers to spend their credit or lose it. How about a refund?!?!?!? Also, why can't they continue to support the licences for purchased tracks? I've spent alot buying tracks off their service and theres now a risk of me losing them unless I burn them onto a cd. Seems poor to me.

We are launching an exciting new music service later in October so you will still be able to access the very best in music and entertainment. Stay tuned for more news.

If you still have credits left in your current Eircom Net Music account please use them up by 8th October 2007, as any credit remaining after this date will expire.

We highly recommend that you take this opportunity to burn any previously downloaded tracks to audio-cd, using Windows Media Player, to protect your licenses. After 8th October 2007 these tracks will be unavailable to recover.

If you have any questions regarding the closure of the service please contact our customer support team at customer.support@od2.com.

Do the original terms & conditions allow them to do this (i.e. "use it or lose it" approach to outstanding credit) perhaps? If not then perhaps a complaint to them and/or the NCA should be considered?
 
The Sony Connect Store is also closing. I know this is after the fact but I would be wary of online stores with DRM (digtial right managment) locking media. I think they offer poor value for money. You'd be better sourcing used CD's and ripping them yourself. Full quality, no licence issues, and a backup of the CD when you break/lose the iPod or computer.

Just had a look and yes, credit and tracks are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. I'd better get spending so.
 
Does it say anything about credit expiring though ? Effectively that is what they are doing is'nt it ?
