Got my eircom bill the other day & also received a new "eircom broadband newsletter" in the post. The newsletter set out the eircom broadband bundles. When I looked at my bill more closely I noticed that my bundle charges differed from the ones on their newsletter.
I rang Eircom this morning and they informed me of the following:
Older Eircom customers that had signed up for broadband before the new bundles were introduced didn't get their accounts upgraded.
This means that if you signed up for an original broadband package (say 2 years ago), you are still charged the same rate that you signed up to even though it's not available to new customers.
Older customers must request the changeover to the new rates otherwise you will continue to be charged at the older (higher) rate.
For me, this amounts to a difference of over €60 per year!
So for all of you who are Eircom BB customers, check your bills and ensure that you are being charged the existing rate for the service.....

I guess the issue is that if they did it the other way around (i.e. charged new customers a higher price and automatically changed the terms & conditions of old customers' agreements) then people would be up in arms. It may be that they have to have old customers sign up to new terms & conditions before they can apply lower charges. UTV did more or less the same thing last year.

As did Gaelic Telecom with my Dad. What's worse is they wanted to charge him something like €20 to change to the lower rate! He held off as he is thinking of changing to a different supplier after the contracted 12 months are up.

Well there are no new T&C to sign to get onto the newer (cheaper) rates. The actual cost of the bundle I'm signed up to now will be a reduction of €60 per year excluding VAT, but there will also be other savings on phone calls which I wasn't entitled to so I may save more.
When I rang their customer accounts this morning, the change was made on the spot and as a "gesture" they discounted me €10 on my last bill because I kicked up so much. According to customer accounts, you simply have to request the change to your bundle and it will be applied to your account.

asaik BT 'upgrade' their existing customers to whatever bundle is currently be promoted. will keep an eye on it though
