eircom 6000 Digital Cordless Phone

we purchased an eircom 6000 Digital Cordless Phone. It's a Sagem DECT. We think the quality is poor, there is a constant hiss on the line, which was never there with our previous, old, non-DECT, Panasonic cordless.

I just wondered has anyone else bought this phone and what do you think of it?

If possible try changing the socket the base unit is plugged into - I had one plugged in near a fridge/freezer and had terrible noise.

I bought a set for my parents. When speaking on the phone, I was conscious of an 'echo' sensation which I've never had on other portable phones. It was slightly irritating but not awful. When phoning my parents (i.e. when they are using the phones), there's a constant 'clicking' sound which is extremely annoying. It means that you have a 'cloze test' type conversation as you're missing every fourth word or so. The signal quality is also extrenely poor. Very unhappy with these phones. Have had a basic siemens portable one for years which is infinitely better.
